Sun 2nd Aug, Aonach Eagach Ridge, Glencoe

The forecast for the day was for improving weather so Jane and I set off early for a trip to the Aonach EagachRidge in Glencoe. On the climb up to Am Bodach the rain didn’t stop and by the time we reached the Bad Step, it was like down climbing a water fall. The ridge was very wet and the rocks were slippy so our progress was slower than usual.

We meet a few other teams on the ridge who would suddenly appear out of the mist. The conditions made it a very atmospheric day but it would have been nice to have seen the route. Just as we reach the col before Stob Coire Leith the clouds began to lift and we enjoyed some views back along the ridge.

By the time we reached the second Munro , Sgorr nam Fiannaidh, the cloud had lifted completely and the sun came out. The forecast of good weather was correct ,it was only about 8 hours later than we had originally had expected. We enjoyed our descent back into Glencoe and the walk back up the glen to the car in sun which helped to dry out our kit.
