Sat21st June, Hadrians Wall trek with GOSH

Today I am working on a charity trek on Hadrians Wall for Great Ormond Street Hospital with Bruce , Sean and charity reps Alex and Debbie. We have a large group of 37 clients who are fund raising for GOSH.

Our route today is to walk 15 miles from Lanercost Priory due east along the line of the wall back to our campsite at Melkridge. After the obligitory team photo we set off to get to our first major milestone at Birdoswald Roman Fort. Just before we arrived at the fort the rains came and we decided to have a well earned break in the cafe. When we set off again the weather had improved and the sun even came out. The lunch stop was just after Greenhead at the top of a long incline where we meet our caterers Antony& Kirstin who had warm drinks and food waiting for us.

After lunch the route become more interesting with more section of the wall visible and it is also slightly more undulating terrain. Late afternoon we finally arrived at the end of the days walk and had a short section on the roads back to our campsite.

Alex and Debbie showed a remarkable turn of sped in the final 500m running ahead to cheer our trekkers back into camp at the end of day 1
